Toen Rotterdam nog geen sportscholen kende, opende Jan-Willem Stoker hier de eerste. Dat was in 1971, nadat hij tijdens een rondreis door de VS scholen vol krachttrainende mensen ontdekte. Uit de Amerikaanse Gouden Gids - de Yellow Pages - plukte hij de mensen die hem de apparatuur konden leveren en verschepen.
